About me PDF Print E-mail

Dina's view:

  • When asked how long it takes for me to make a piece, I answer "40 years and then some".
  • Having learned to throw and hand-build in my native Johannesburg,' I soon preferred to focus on hand work.
  • Stoneware and porcelain best suit the domestic ware I love to fashion.
  • I make each piece a challenge by working with ever greater delicacy.
  • Then I hope and pray my pots retain their shape through the demanding glazing and kiln firing cycles.
  • I make no-two-alike water features, planters for indoors and out, tableware, cookware, light shades and wearables - earrings, pendants, brooches and stickpins.
  • It is pure magic when your own hands have transformed a lump of mud into a piece of ceramic art.
  • The satisfaction is boundless.
  • Visit my garden studio and have a go.
  • It's very rewarding AND IT IS FUN!

Play-clay pottery PDF Print E-mail

Light garden studio in leafy Muswell Hill.
We use hand-building methods, not a potter's wheel; it is unhelpful for young children, being mechanised and too fast.
Children are welcome to bring their own friends or they meet other potters here.
Average session time is one hour; teens and adults prefer two- to three-hour classes.
I set no age limit - some very young children mould and shape with full attention, and for long spells.
Half-term and holiday projects are divided into three one-hour sessions, over one week or two.
We can make and paint pottery in the same 'play' time.
While I may suggest project and party themes, most kids prefer choosing their own.
Pottery parties, for up to sixteen youngsters, are held in my studio.

Pottery ONLY is on offer - no party nosh - sorry! We have a range of party-friendly places nearby, while larger parties are set up in your own homes or at agreed other venues
